- FC Köln have triggered the release clause to sign Jakub Kaminski permanently from VfL Wolfsburg, the club confirmed on Tuesday. The 23-year-old Polish attacker spent the 2023-24 season on loan with the Cathedral City club, making a significant impact during his time at the RheinEnergieStadion.
Kaminski featured in all 36 of Köln’s competitive matches last season, scoring seven goals and providing five assists. His consistent performances quickly established him as a key player for manager Timo Schultz, contributing significantly to their Bundesliga campaign. The financial details of the transfer were not disclosed by either club.
Managing director Thomas Kessler lauded Kaminski’s character and impact, stating that the player “impressed us with his personality right from our initial discussions.” Kessler further emphasized Kaminski’s ambition and team-player mentality, adding that his on and off-field contributions made the decision to activate the purchase option a straightforward one. He also highlighted Köln’s role in fostering the development of ambitious players.
Kaminski began his professional career with Lech Poznan, making his debut at the age of 17 and earning his first senior international cap for Poland at 19. He joined Wolfsburg in 2022, accumulating 104 Bundesliga appearances across his time with both clubs. Despite his relatively young age, Kaminski has already represented Poland at a World Cup, appearing in the 2022 tournament in Qatar.
The move provides 1. FC Köln with a confirmed attacking talent ahead of the new season, solidifying their squad depth. For Wolfsburg, the permanent sale allows them to recoup funds and potentially reinvest in other areas of the team. This transfer represents a successful outcome for all parties involved, with Kaminski finding a stable home in Cologne where he can continue his development.
