Genoa manager Daniele De Rossi spoke to the press following his side’s 0-0 draw with Fiorentina, discussing both player performances and his own future with the club.
The result marked Genoa’s second consecutive goalless draw, coming after a similar result against Napoli, but secured their Serie A status for another season having mathematically avoided relegation a week prior. De Rossi praised his team’s effort despite the lack of goals, noting they moved the ball well in attack and improved after halftime.
De Rossi specifically highlighted the physical attributes of defender Leo Ostigard, stating he possesses a “physical dominance that is only seen in the Premier League.” He also commended the team’s defensive solidity and the progress being made by all players, including those with limited playing time.
The Genoa manager revealed he has held discussions with club president Dan Sucu regarding his future, but refrained from making any firm commitments. He acknowledged recent speculation linking him with other clubs, dismissing it as unfounded, and emphasized his current contentment at Genoa. De Rossi stated that only Cristian Chivu’s position is currently secure, and he hopes to guide the club to European competition, though he stopped short of guaranteeing it.
De Rossi also disclosed a previous approach from Fiorentina, revealing “there had been close contact with Pradé and Barone, who then chose to continue with Iachini.” He drew a parallel to his own playing career, where he remained loyal to Roma, and indicated he is not actively seeking a move away from Genoa at this time.
This comes after De Rossi took over at Genoa in January, successfully steering them away from a relegation battle. His impact has been significant, stabilizing a team that struggled earlier in the season.
