Paulo Dybala has indicated that his upcoming Rome derby match may be his last for the club, stating that he has not received any contract renewal offers from the Roman side. The Argentinian forward made the comments following Roma’s dramatic 2-1 victory over Parma on Friday, a match in which he played a key role.
Dybala expressed his desire to know what the future holds, noting that his current contract stipulates his time with Roma concludes after the next two matches. While he kept his personal intentions close, he acknowledged the situation leaves his future uncertain. According to reports, Dybala would be open to remaining in the Italian capital but has yet to receive a formal proposal, even after signalling a willingness to accept a reduced salary.
The situation has drawn interest from other clubs, most notably Boca Juniors, who are reportedly keen to bring Dybala back to Argentina. The 30-year-old previously played for Juventus and Palermo in Serie A, as well as a stint with Paris Saint-Germain, before joining Roma in 2022. He has been a valuable, if often injury-prone, asset for the club, contributing goals and assists when fit.
Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini addressed the situation after the match, acknowledging Dybala’s comments and stating there is still time before the derby to see what unfolds. Gasperini praised Dybala’s performance against Parma, lamenting the time lost due to injury this season, and expressing hope that the forward’s situation can be resolved. He also revealed a tactical ploy used during the match involving a penalty, stating that Dybala was sent to take the kick to distract the opposition, allowing teammate Malen to ultimately score.
The outcome of Dybala’s contract situation could significantly impact Roma’s attacking options heading into next season, and potentially influence their transfer strategy. A departure would leave a void in their creative ranks, while a renewal would signal a commitment to retaining a key player.
