Fiorentina are considering Alberto De Rossi as a potential replacement for current manager Paolo Vanoli, according to reports in Italy. The club’s hierarchy will evaluate Vanoli’s position following the conclusion of the Serie A season, with De Rossi emerging as a prominent candidate.
Vanoli took charge of Fiorentina in November, following a draw against Genoa, and is aiming to secure Serie A safety with a positive result in the return fixture against the same opposition. Despite a recent 4-0 defeat to Roma which ended a seven-match unbeaten run, Fiorentina are on the cusp of achieving their primary goal for the season, with eight wins, nine draws, and eight losses to their name.
However, reports suggest that even if Fiorentina achieve safety, there is little appetite for celebration amongst the fanbase, with supporters eager for a significant improvement next season. Discussions between Vanoli and the club are expected to take place regardless of the outcome against Genoa, with De Rossi, alongside other managers such as Iraola and Grosso, being assessed for the future.
De Rossi has impressed in his role at Genoa, successfully steering the club away from relegation danger after taking over mid-season. Genoa’s form under De Rossi has been a significant turnaround, and he has expressed his desire to finish the season strongly, aiming for a first win at the Stadio Franchi since 1977. He intends to balance giving opportunities to squad players with maintaining a cohesive team structure.
The potential appointment of De Rossi would represent a significant shift for Fiorentina, who are seeking a manager capable of delivering a sustained period of success. While Vanoli has stabilised the team, the club’s ambition is to build a side capable of challenging for European qualification and beyond. Both teams will honour their mothers on the field, wearing their mothers' maiden names on their jerseys.
