Sebastiano Desplanches has joined Serie A newcomers Frosinone on a season-long loan from Palermo, the club confirmed on Wednesday. The 23-year-old goalkeeper will compete for the starting position with Marco Palmisani, who was the established number one for Frosinone during their promotion-winning Serie B campaign.
Desplanches is considered one of Italy’s most promising young goalkeepers, though he is set to make his Serie A debut after a period of development in lower leagues. He spent last season on loan at Pescara in Serie B, making 48 appearances and conceding 71 goals, while also registering a number of clean sheets. Prior to that, the player featured in Serie C for Trento during the first half of 2023.
Born in 2003, Desplanches is a product of the Milan youth academy, though he never made a senior appearance for the Rossoneri. He represented Italy at the Under-20 level, playing a key role as the team reached the final of a recent tournament, ultimately losing to Uruguay. He was a starter in that competition, earning praise for his performances.
Frosinone’s sporting director, Guido Castagnini, stated that the club brought in Desplanches to add competition for places, acknowledging the need for depth in the goalkeeping position. He emphasized that competition is a natural part of football. Fantasy football analysts suggest Desplanches represents a low-cost option for fantasy managers, best utilized in a pairing with Palmisani, and not exceeding 1% of a team’s budget at auction. Frosinone will be looking to establish themselves in Serie A after earning promotion, and Desplanches will be aiming to contribute to that effort.
