Diego Coppola has joined Paris FC on a permanent deal, the club confirmed on Thursday. The 22-year-old Italian defender signs a contract through 2031, returning to the French capital after a successful loan spell during the latter half of last season. Coppola departs Brighton & Hove Albion, where he made nine appearances across all competitions following his arrival in the summer of 2023.
Coppola initially joined Paris FC on loan in January, quickly establishing himself as a key figure in their defense. He started each of the club’s final 13 Ligue 1 matches, demonstrating his quality and impact on the team. Paris FC finished 12th in Ligue 1 last season, narrowly avoiding relegation, and will be hoping Coppola’s presence strengthens their backline for the upcoming campaign.
The defender came through the youth ranks at Hellas Verona in Italy, earning two senior international caps for the Italian national team. Despite showing promise at Brighton, Coppola struggled to secure regular first-team football in the Premier League. The move to Paris FC offers him the opportunity to become a consistent starter and further develop his career.
Paris FC’s sporting director, Marco Neppe, expressed his delight at securing Coppola’s signature, stating that the player demonstrated his qualities and potential contribution to the team during his loan period. The club has recently appointed Liam Rosenior as their new head coach, replacing Antoine Kombouaré, meaning Coppola will be adapting to a new tactical approach. This transfer bolsters Paris FC’s defensive options and provides Rosenior with a reliable player as he begins to shape the squad to his vision.
Coppola’s return provides stability to a Paris FC side aiming to consolidate their position in Ligue 1 and potentially push for a higher league finish.
