Aïssa Mandi has signed for Spanish Segunda División side Levante until 2028, the club confirmed on Thursday. The Algerian international joins the Valencia-based outfit on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Ligue 1 club Lille. Mandi arrives with a wealth of experience in Spanish football, having previously featured for Real Betis and Villarreal.
Mandi departed Lille after a successful spell with the northern French club, where he was voted as the supporters’ player of the season for the 2025-2026 campaign. He leaves the Stade Pierre-Mauroy having established himself as a key figure in their defence since joining in 2021. Prior to his move to France, the centre-back spent five seasons with Real Betis, becoming a fan favourite during his time in Seville.
The 32-year-old boasts an impressive record in La Liga, with 206 appearances across his spells with Betis and Villarreal. He will bring significant defensive solidity and leadership qualities to Levante, who are aiming to secure promotion back to La Liga after finishing mid-table last season. Levante have been relatively quiet in the transfer market so far, with Enzo Bardeli, previously of Dunkerque, being their other summer addition.
Mandi is Algeria’s most capped player of all time, with 122 appearances for the national team. He has been a mainstay in the Algerian squad for over a decade, representing his country at multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and the FIFA World Cup. He will link up with new Levante manager Luis Castro as the club prepares for the upcoming season. This move provides Mandi with the opportunity to continue playing at a high level and further showcase his abilities in a league he knows well, while Levante gain a proven performer in a crucial position.
The addition of Mandi strengthens Levante’s defensive options and provides a significant boost to their promotion aspirations. His experience and leadership will be invaluable as they look to challenge for a return to the Spanish top flight.
