Senegalese forward Bamba Dieng will leave Ligue 1 club Lorient when his contract expires at the end of June. The announcement was made by Dieng himself via an Instagram post, expressing gratitude to the club and its supporters.
Dieng arrived at Lorient and quickly became a key player, particularly impactful in the second half of the season with ten league goals. He described his time at the club as a ‘beautiful chapter’ and stated it was time to ‘turn the page’ in his career. He thanked the fans for their support through both positive and challenging periods, and affirmed Lorient would always hold a special place in his heart.
The 23-year-old initially joined Lorient from Marseille, though his spell there was relatively short. He has also represented Senegal at the international level, contributing to their squad in recent years. His prolific form in the latter part of the Ligue 1 season has inevitably attracted attention from other clubs, both within France and potentially abroad.
Lorient are now expected to seek a replacement for Dieng, with reports suggesting Pablo Pagis may also be departing. The club will likely be in the market for a new number nine to bolster their attacking options ahead of the next campaign. Dieng’s departure represents a significant loss for Lorient, but his availability on a free transfer presents an opportunity for other clubs to secure a talented forward without a transfer fee.
