RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande has indicated he would be receptive to a move to Chelsea, acknowledging the appeal of playing for a club of their stature. The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international stated he would be “happy and motivated” by a transfer to the Premier League side, according to BuliNews.
Diomande has enjoyed a breakout season with Leipzig, scoring 13 goals and providing eight assists in 35 appearances across all competitions since joining from Leganes last summer. His performances have attracted attention from several top European clubs, including Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain, with some reports suggesting he is a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah at Anfield.
Chelsea are reportedly in the market for attacking reinforcements following underwhelming seasons from Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, and Alejandro Garnacho. While a central defender is considered a priority, the Blues are also exploring options to bolster their forward line, and Diomande’s comments may encourage them to pursue a deal. Leipzig have publicly stated they are unwilling to sell Diomande this summer, valuing him in excess of €100 million.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Diomande acknowledged the speculation surrounding his future. “Of course, if you imagine someone saying you have to go to Chelsea or Real Madrid to do this job, you’re going to be happy and motivated to do more,” he said. However, he also stressed his focus remains on his current club, adding, “But I don’t think about this kind of thing because I’m trying to be focused on the pitch.”
Diomande’s contract with Leipzig runs until 2030, providing the Bundesliga club with a strong negotiating position. He expressed gratitude to Leipzig for taking a chance on him, noting the club’s support both on and off the pitch. He also stated he is focused on repaying that faith with strong performances. A potential sale could hinge on Chelsea offloading several defenders, including Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, and Tyrique George, to free up funds and squad space.
