Borussia Dortmund have reached a full agreement with RB Salzburg for the transfer of defender Joane Gadou, according to Sky Germany. The 19-year-old Frenchman is expected to join the Bundesliga side this summer, pending a medical examination and official confirmation.
The transfer fee is reported to be €20 million upfront, with potential add-ons ranging from €4-6 million, and a significant sell-on clause included in the deal. Details regarding the length of Gadou’s contract at Dortmund have not been fully disclosed, but it is understood to be a long-term agreement. Transfer journalist Florian Plettenberg has described the move as a strong piece of business for Dortmund’s newly appointed sporting director, Ole Book.
Gadou has established himself as a regular in the RB Salzburg squad this season, making 33 appearances across all competitions and accumulating over 2,720 minutes of playing time. He has been a key component of their defence, demonstrating maturity beyond his years. Salzburg have been a noted developer of young talent, frequently selling players on to larger European clubs.
Dortmund are bolstering their defensive options ahead of the 2026-27 season, potentially replacing or providing competition for existing centre-backs. The acquisition of Gadou aligns with Dortmund’s strategy of investing in promising young players with high potential resale value. This transfer could provide long-term stability in the heart of their defence and contribute to their continued competitiveness in the Bundesliga and European competitions.
