Borussia Dortmund are continuing negotiations with Karim Adeyemi over a contract extension, though an agreement has yet to be reached, according to comments made by club officials Ole Book and Lars Ricken.
The 22-year-old forward’s current deal at Signal Iduna Park runs until 2027, and Dortmund are keen to avoid entering a situation where he enters the final year of his contract. Sporting director Ole Book stated the club will continue discussions with Adeyemi and his representatives during the summer break.
Adeyemi joined Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2022 for a reported fee of €30 million, quickly establishing himself as a key player in the Bundesliga side’s attack. He has scored 12 goals in 34 Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund, contributing to their title challenge last season and their recent Champions League run. A significant knee injury hampered his progress during the 2023-24 season, sidelining him for several months.
Managing director for sport, Lars Ricken, acknowledged the interest from other European clubs in Adeyemi, highlighting the player’s obvious qualities. He confirmed that both parties have differing ideas regarding the terms of a potential extension, a common occurrence in contract negotiations. Ricken emphasized the importance of maintaining open dialogue to find a resolution.
Dortmund are currently preparing for a busy summer transfer window, with Champions League qualification secured for next season. Retaining key players like Adeyemi is crucial to their ambitions of challenging Bayern Munich’s domestic dominance and making further progress in Europe. A successful contract extension would provide stability to the attack and potentially ward off interest from Premier League clubs, who have previously been linked with the German international.
The outcome of these negotiations could significantly impact Dortmund's attacking options in the coming seasons and potentially influence their transfer strategy if Adeyemi does not commit to a new deal.
