Juventus players have begun to gather at the Continassa training ground as preparations for the 2026-27 season get underway, though the squad’s composition remains uncertain. The club recently appointed Giovanni Carnevali and Antonio Massara as new directors, replacing Comolli and Modesto, but transfer activity has been slow due to failing to qualify for the Champions League and needing to address financial concerns with UEFA. Manager Luciano Spalletti has been told to expect a patient approach to squad building.
Juventus are known to be seeking a new goalkeeper and striker, with Emiliano Martinez and Kolo Muani identified as primary targets, though their high cost presents a significant obstacle. Alternatives such as Vicario and Pellegrino, as well as potentially renewing the contract of Dusan Vlahovic, are being considered as backup options. So far, the only incoming transfer has been young prospect Ekhator.
Among those arriving at the training ground was Douglas Luiz, who returns to Juventus after a loan spell with Aston Villa. Luiz initially joined Juventus two summers ago as a high-profile signing, but failed to establish himself during his time in the Premier League, with neither Nottingham Forest nor Aston Villa choosing to make the move permanent. The Brazilian posted on Instagram stating he is “concentrated on the objective,” suggesting a desire to prove himself.
Carnevali has pledged to build a competitive squad while remaining financially prudent, seemingly ruling out moves for players like Kessie, Goretzka, and Brahim Diaz. Spalletti is reportedly focused on reintegrating players who have previously been deemed surplus to requirements, with Luiz being a key example. Juventus are hoping Luiz can become a central figure in their rebuilding process after a period of instability following their dominant run of nine consecutive Serie A titles, and a disappointing finish last season that saw them qualify for the Europa League. The club acknowledges that returning to Scudetto contention will take time, but they are determined to move in the right direction.
