Paulo Dybala has extended his contract with AS Roma for one additional season, the club announced on Monday via their social media channels. The agreement comes after a period of stalled negotiations and speculation linking the Argentinian forward with a move to Boca Juniors. Dybala’s previous contract was due to expire this summer, creating uncertainty over his future in the Italian capital.
The 32-year-old, who has earned 40 caps for Argentina scoring 4 goals, joined Roma in the summer of 2022 following his departure from Juventus. Since arriving at the Stadio Olimpico, Dybala has scored 45 goals for the club but has also faced significant time on the sidelines due to injury. He has missed a total of 56 matches during his time with the Giallorossi.
Dybala endured a particularly challenging 2023-24 season, hampered by a left knee injury that required surgery in early March. He managed only three goals in 27 appearances across all competitions, playing a total of 1,594 minutes. His limited playing time raised questions about his long-term suitability for the club, especially given his reputation for fragility.
Despite interest from Boca Juniors following the World Cup – where he was ultimately not selected for the Argentinian squad – Dybala has committed his future to Roma. According to reports in L’Équipe, the player himself acknowledged that contract talks had reached an impasse at one point, making the renewal all the more significant. The extension provides Roma with a continued attacking threat, though his fitness will remain a key factor. This deal ensures Roma retains a key attacking option as they look to build on their Serie A form.
