Eintracht Frankfurt confirm Mahmoud Dahoud exit as midfielder set for free transfer
Eintracht Frankfurt have confirmed that midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season. The Bundesliga club announced that the 30-year-old will depart as a free agent when his short-term deal concludes this summer.
Sporting director Timmo Hardung, in a club statement, said, "Mo has always put the team first and has been an exemplary professional throughout. We thank him for his commitment over the past two seasons, and wish him all the best for the future, both on and off the pitch." The 30-year-old, who joined from Brighton & Hove Albion at the start of the 2024/25 campaign, has made 35 appearances for the club, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
Dahoud, a former Germany international, has been absent from the Frankfurt squad for their last two matches, a decision the club has not publicly explained. His time at the club was ultimately brief, having signed a two-year deal upon his arrival from the Premier League. The central midfielder, who began his career at Borussia Monchengladbach, previously spent six years at Borussia Dortmund, winning the DFB-Pokal in 2021.
His departure will free up a squad place and wage budget for Frankfurt, who are expected to be active in the summer transfer market. Dahoud's exit follows a pattern of short-term moves in recent years, having also had a brief spell at VfB Stuttgart before his single season at Brighton. His next destination is not yet known, but as a free agent, the experienced midfielder is now free to negotiate with other clubs ahead of the 2025/26 season. The 30-year-old will be seeking a new club for the third time in three years, looking to reignite a career that once saw him as a regular in the German national team setup.
For Eintracht, the focus will now turn to finding a suitable replacement in the heart of their midfield, with the summer window offering an opportunity for a squad refresh. The club has not yet indicated who might replace Dahoud's role within the squad, but his departure was a decision made by the club's sporting leadership as they plan for the future.
