Arsenal are increasingly confident of securing the transfer of Ajax winger Mika Godts this summer, with recent developments offering a double boost to Mikel Arteta’s plans. The 20-year-old Belgian has quickly become a standout performer in the Eredivisie, drawing comparisons to Eden Hazard due to his skillful dribbling and attacking flair.
Godts was promoted to Ajax’s first team in January 2024 and has since established himself as a key player, registering an impressive 17 goals and 14 assists in 40 appearances this season. His recent form includes goals in his last three league matches, further highlighting his current capabilities. While Manchester United and Manchester City have also expressed interest in Godts, Arsenal’s position has been strengthened by Barcelona’s decision not to pursue the player.
According to Marca, as cited by Sport Witness, Barcelona were offered Godts but prefer a more experienced left winger, potentially opting to make Marcus Rashford’s loan from Manchester United permanent for a fee of €30 million. This removes a significant competitor for Godts’ signature. Furthermore, reports suggest that Godts himself is ‘very open’ to a move to the Emirates Stadium, indicating a smooth negotiation process regarding personal terms is likely.
Arsenal scouts were reportedly impressed by Godts’ individual goal against NAC Breda in April, a display of skill that involved taking on multiple defenders before finishing emphatically. Ajax are currently seeking a fee of €75 million (£65m) for their prized asset, however, this price could decrease if they fail to qualify for European competition. Godts’ agent, Niels De Jonck, previously stated that the club would not refuse a “significant amount” for the player.
Arteta is reportedly looking to strengthen his options on the left wing, potentially as a replacement for Gabriel Martinelli. Arsenal may also face competition from Manchester United for other targets, including Rafael Leao of AC Milan, who is now valued between £40-50 million. The pursuit of Godts represents a proactive step by Arsenal to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season.
