Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of Croatian defender Luka Vušković from Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of around £58 million, including add-ons. The 19-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Seagulls, with the option of a further year.
Vušković was originally signed by Tottenham in 2023, but only arrived in London in 2025. He made just one appearance for the club, in a friendly match, and did not feature in any official games. Despite this limited playing time, the transfer represents the fourth-highest sale in Tottenham’s history, behind Harry Kane, Gareth Bale, and Kyle Walker.
Last season, Vušković spent a loan spell at Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga, where he quickly established himself as a key player. He made 30 appearances for the German side, earning the league’s Young Player of the Season award and a place in the Bundesliga Team of the Season. He also earned his first international caps for Croatia, including an appearance at the World Cup. This impressive form ultimately convinced Brighton to make him their most expensive signing to date.
Tottenham will reportedly retain 20% of any future resale fee for Vušković, as well as a matching right on any future offers. This structure means Tottenham will profit significantly from a player who never made a competitive appearance for the club. The move allows Brighton to bolster their defensive options with a highly-rated young talent, while Tottenham generate a substantial profit on an asset.
