Inter midfielder Davide Frattesi is expected to leave the club this summer, despite being signed for over €32 million just last year, according to reports in Italy. The 24-year-old has struggled for consistent playing time under both Simone Inzaghi and more recently, Cristian Chivu, starting only three Serie A matches in the recently concluded season.
Frattesi’s game time has significantly decreased since joining Inter, dropping from 1,986 minutes in the 2022-23 season to just 1,133 minutes this past campaign. He was brought in as a potential replacement for Henrikh Mkhitaryan but failed to establish himself as a regular starter in Inter’s midfield. While he contributed as a substitute during their title-winning season, Frattesi reportedly feels limited in that role.
Inter have adjusted their valuation of the player accordingly, and are now seeking a fee in the region of €20-25 million, which would still represent a significant profit. Several clubs have expressed interest, with Atalanta and Roma emerging as frontrunners. Atalanta, under new manager Cristiano Giuntoli, are rebuilding their squad to fit a 4-3-3 system, and Sarri previously wanted Frattesi at Lazio. However, Atalanta’s lack of Champions League football and wage constraints could prove to be obstacles.
A return to Roma is also a possibility, with the club potentially interested in a swap deal involving midfielder Manu Koné. Inter are already in discussions with Roma regarding Koné, and while the two transfers are formally separate, they are reportedly linked. Roma’s participation in the Champions League could be a significant draw for Frattesi. Inter are also exploring options in the Premier League, having previously held talks with several English clubs, but a deal has never materialized. The Nerazzurri are also interested in Liverpool's Curtis Jones, with negotiations ongoing over a potential €25 million transfer, a fee that would align with their asking price for Frattesi.
Inter are hoping to finalize a deal for Jones alongside Frattesi’s departure, potentially using the funds to strengthen other areas of the squad. The situation remains fluid, but Frattesi’s exit from Inter appears increasingly likely.
