Chelsea have reportedly entered the race to sign Bologna forward Jonathan Rowe, with a bid of £35 million (approximately €40 million) prepared, according to sources in England. The 21-year-old winger has impressed this season, scoring eight goals in total, with three coming in Serie A, including a spectacular overhead kick against Napoli.
Rowe joined Bologna from Marseille in 2023, signing a contract that runs until 2029, for a fee of €19.5 million. His performances have significantly increased his value, and the club now anticipate potential offers during the summer transfer window. Bologna paid a substantial fee for Rowe, and would likely seek to double their investment should they sell.
Despite a recent injury setback earlier this season, Rowe quickly regained form, and his impact on the pitch has been undeniable. He is known for his generosity and positive attitude within the squad, reportedly treating teammates to dinner and even gifting shoes to fans. The player himself has openly expressed his dream of playing in the Premier League, having grown up near Wembley Stadium. He stated that he felt destined to play football from a young age, and that his path had been carefully planned.
Other Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa and Manchester United, are also monitoring Rowe’s situation. Galatasaray have also expressed interest, potentially offering a significantly higher salary than his current €1.5 million per year contract with Bologna. However, Rowe's preference for a move to England could prove decisive. Bologna’s chances of retaining Rowe hinge on securing European football for next season, or convincing him that continued development in Italy will aid his chances of earning a senior England call-up. New manager Vincenzo Italiano will need to outline a compelling vision for Rowe’s future at the club to stand a chance of keeping him.
