Borussia Dortmund are continuing negotiations with Karim Adeyemi regarding a contract extension, despite currently being unable to reach an agreement, according to club officials.
The 22-year-old forward’s current deal is set to expire in 2027, and Dortmund are keen to avoid entering a situation where he enters the final year of his contract. Sporting director Ole Book stated the club will continue discussions with Adeyemi and his representatives during the summer break.
Adeyemi joined Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2022 for a reported €30 million, quickly establishing himself as a key player in the Bundesliga side’s attack. He has scored 12 goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund, though his 2023/24 season was impacted by injury.
Managing director for sport, Lars Ricken, acknowledged the interest in Adeyemi from other European clubs, stating that the player’s qualities are “well known” across the continent. Ricken also noted that contract negotiations often involve differing viewpoints from each party, but emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue.
Negotiations are ongoing as Dortmund aim to secure Adeyemi’s long-term future at the Signal Iduna Park. The club’s inability to agree terms could lead to increased speculation about his future, with several top European clubs potentially monitoring the situation. Successfully extending Adeyemi’s contract would represent a significant boost for Dortmund as they look to build a competitive squad for future seasons.
