Borussia Dortmund have identified Ajax Amsterdam’s Rayane Bounida as a summer transfer target, according to reports from Sacha Tavolieri. The 20-year-old, who is eligible to play for both Belgium and Morocco, has emerged as a potential option to bolster Dortmund’s attacking options ahead of the upcoming season.
Bounida made his debut for Ajax in December 2024 and has since featured in 29 games for the Dutch club, registering two goals and nine assists. He offers versatility in attack, capable of playing as a central attacking midfielder or on either wing, a quality that appeals to Dortmund manager Edin Terzić. The Moroccan international recently made his debut for the national team in May, though he wasn’t selected for the World Cup squad.
However, Dortmund currently have other transfer priorities, with outgoings and other potential signings taking precedence. The club is also pursuing Konstantinos Karetsas of KRC Genk, with a player agreement already in place. Negotiations with Genk over a fee have proven difficult, potentially opening the door for a move for Bounida.
Ajax are reportedly reluctant to sell Bounida, who is under contract until 2028, and will likely demand a significant fee for the player. The Dutch club are unwilling to let him leave on the cheap, recognizing his potential and value to the team. Dortmund’s relatively quiet transfer window thus far suggests a need for attacking reinforcements, but the club’s financial constraints and other targets could complicate a deal.
Should Dortmund fail to secure a deal for Karetsas, Bounida represents a viable alternative. His versatility and recent form for Ajax make him an attractive prospect, but Dortmund will need to meet Ajax’s valuation to secure his signature. The pursuit of Bounida highlights Dortmund’s intention to strengthen their attacking options, and the coming weeks will determine whether they can successfully bring the young midfielder to the Bundesliga.
