Nottingham Forest have made a move for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, but will need to meet a £40million valuation set by the Merseyside club, according to Italian journalist Luca Cerchione. The reporter, who has a track record of breaking transfer news, posted on social media that Liverpool are demanding the substantial fee for the 25-year-old, whose contract at Anfield runs until June 2027.
This comes as Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s owners, are reportedly open to selling Jones this summer. Interest has also been reported from Serie A champions Inter Milan, with sources indicating the player himself is keen on a move to the Italian giants, and Inter were prepared to offer £21million – a fee Liverpool have deemed insufficient. Jones has made 228 appearances for Liverpool since progressing through the club’s youth academy, scoring 22 goals and providing 25 assists.
The potential sale of Jones is occurring amid a managerial change at Liverpool, with Andoni Iraola recently appointed as the new manager. Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has urged the new manager to retain Jones, highlighting his value as a backup option and his potential to break into the starting eleven. Heskey pointed to Jones’s strong performance at the U21 Euros, where he was one of the best players, as evidence of his quality.
However, Heskey also acknowledged that Jones needs regular football to continue his development and potentially earn a place in the full England squad. A move to Nottingham Forest would likely offer Jones more consistent playing time, while Liverpool could recoup a significant fee for a player who may not be a regular starter under Iraola. The outcome of Forest’s bid will likely depend on their willingness to meet Liverpool’s valuation and Jones’s preference for a move to the City Ground.
