Le Havre have announced the signing of defender Vincent Sasso on a free transfer, the club confirmed on Monday. The 35-year-old will wear the number 23 shirt for the upcoming Ligue 1 season. Sasso joins Le Havre after his contract with USL Dunkerque expired on June 30th.
Sasso’s arrival at Le Havre sees him reunite with Demba Ba, who recently took on the role of the club’s sporting director. The pair previously played together at Dunkerque, where Sasso spent the last two seasons as a key player in their defence. He made 63 appearances for the club across all competitions.
Born in Saint-Cloud, Sasso began his professional career at FC Nantes, progressing through their youth system before making his debut in Ligue 2. However, the majority of his career has been spent abroad, primarily in Portugal and Switzerland. He enjoyed a successful spell with Braga in Portugal, winning the Portuguese League Cup. He also featured prominently in the Swiss Super League, establishing himself as a consistent performer.
Le Havre highlighted Sasso’s “game intelligence” in their official announcement, suggesting he will bring both experience and tactical awareness to their squad. The club described him as a player with a “long international career” who has “performed at the highest level in many European championships.”
The signing addresses a need for defensive reinforcement as Le Havre prepare for their return to Ligue 1, having earned promotion at the end of the previous season. Sasso’s experience will be invaluable as the club aims to establish themselves in the French top flight. His arrival provides competition for places and depth within the squad.
