Inter are expected to pursue a fast-paced defender in the upcoming transfer window, according to comments made by Italian football analyst Beppe Bergomi. Bergomi, speaking to reporters, highlighted a need for players capable of taking on opponents one-on-one, particularly as the Nerazzurri look to improve their Champions League prospects.
Bergomi believes Inter’s current squad structure, while successful domestically, may need adjustments to compete at the highest level in Europe. He noted that many top European clubs possess multiple attackers adept at individual dribbling, a quality Inter currently lacks. This assessment comes after Inter reached the Champions League final in 2023, pushing their limits to achieve that result.
While acknowledging potential departures due to player age, Bergomi doesn’t foresee a significant shift away from Inter’s favoured 3-5-2 formation, praising the contributions of Federico Dimarco and Hakan Calhanoglu within that system. He suggests the club should prioritise a trequartista, a different type of forward, a quick defender, and a physically imposing midfielder to bolster their squad depth.
Fabian Parisi has emerged as a potential target, with Bergomi acknowledging Inter president Beppe Marotta’s preference for Italian players. He stated that pursuing Parisi is a logical step, though any deal will be contingent on cost. Parisi currently plays for Fiorentina and has established himself as a promising young talent in Serie A. The 23-year-old left-back has been a consistent performer for Vincenzo Italiano’s side, contributing both defensively and in attack. Inter’s interest in Parisi reflects their desire to strengthen their defensive options with a player who can offer pace and attacking impetus.
Bergomi also lauded the impact of coach Simone Inzaghi, praising his ability to navigate a season impacted by injuries, and highlighted the leadership of captain Lautaro Martinez. He expressed surprise at the Champions League exits of both AC Milan and Juventus, attributing Milan’s struggles to a loss of momentum after falling out of the Serie A title race.
