Inter are in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a potential move for English right-back Djed Spence, according to reports in Italy. Spence has reportedly indicated his willingness to join the Nerazzurri, as he finds himself behind Pedro Porro in the Tottenham squad.
Spence, 25, previously spent time in Serie A with Genoa, making 16 appearances and accumulating 853 minutes on the pitch during a six-month loan spell in 2024. Genoa had the option to purchase him for €10 million following the loan, but changes in club ownership prevented the deal from materializing. He subsequently returned to Tottenham.
Inter initially pursued other options, including Khalaili, but that deal fell through during medical examinations. This led the club to prioritize Spence, with coach Cristian Chivu reportedly enthusiastic about the player’s versatility – he can play on both flanks. The club’s sporting directors, Piero Ausilio and Beppe Marotta, have begun discussions with Tottenham, though negotiations are progressing cautiously.
Tottenham are believed to value Spence at around €35 million, which is €10 million more than Inter’s previous agreement for Khalaili. Despite the higher asking price, Inter remain engaged in dialogue with the London club. The situation is complicated by Spence’s current participation in the World Cup with England, but Inter are prepared to wait until the tournament concludes to advance negotiations.
Spence’s desire to return to Italy is seen as a positive factor, and Tottenham appear open to letting him leave given Porro’s established position and recent contract extension until 2031. Inter believe they can offer Spence regular playing time and a prominent role in the Champions League, something he currently lacks at Tottenham. Securing a deal will require a significant financial effort, but Inter are confident of making progress as the transfer window continues.
