Leeds United have emerged as potential suitors for Barcelona winger Roony Bardghji, according to a report in Mundo Deportivo. The 20-year-old Sweden international is expected to be loaned out this summer to gain more consistent playing time after a mixed first season at the Camp Nou.
Bardghji joined Barcelona last summer for a reported €2.5 million from Copenhagen, having previously suffered an ACL injury. Despite the relatively low transfer fee, the winger displayed promising glimpses of his talent, notably scoring in his Champions League debut against Olympiacos. However, his opportunities became increasingly limited as the season progressed, leading to speculation about his future.
The player’s omission from Sweden’s World Cup squad generated discussion, with some reports suggesting Barcelona manager Graham Potter was not entirely satisfied with Bardghji’s attitude when not selected. This, combined with his limited game time, has prompted the club to consider a loan move.
While Leeds have expressed interest, Mundo Deportivo notes that no formal offers have been made for Bardghji. The club recently agreed terms with Fulham winger Harry Wilson, who will join on a free transfer, potentially reducing the immediate need for another attacking addition. However, a loan deal with a potential purchase option could still prove to be a valuable acquisition for Leeds.
Barcelona are likely to be open to such an arrangement, given the minimal initial investment in Bardghji and the potential for a future profit. Data analytics firm SciSports suggests Bardghji would be a strong tactical fit for Daniel Farke’s side, rating Leeds as one of his best Premier League options alongside Aston Villa, with a Club Fit rating of 80 out of 100. Inter Milan, Marseille, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund represent even stronger overall fits according to SciSports’ analysis.
Leeds received particularly high marks in the playing style category and currently offer a favourable playing time rating, though this may shift following Wilson’s arrival. As it stands, a move for Bardghji appears to be a logical step for both the player and the club, offering the young Swede a platform to develop and Leeds a potentially shrewd addition to their squad.
