Lille are currently in negotiations with Feyenoord Rotterdam regarding a potential transfer for Dutch youth international Gjivai Zechiël, according to L’Équipe. The move comes as Lille finalize the signing of Basar Önal from NEC Nijmegen, with the winger expected to complete his medical in the coming hours.
Zechiël, a 22-year-old midfielder, spent last season on loan at FC Utrecht, where he impressed with 10 goals and 10 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions. He has also represented the Netherlands at youth levels, earning 10 caps and scoring 4 goals for the Under-21 side. His performances for Utrecht have reportedly increased his market value.
Negotiations between Lille and Feyenoord have not yet yielded an agreement, with the Rotterdam club reportedly seeking a significant fee for the player who is under contract until 2028. Feyenoord’s valuation is proving to be a sticking point in the discussions, as they are unwilling to let Zechiël depart for anything less than their asking price.
Lille are looking to strengthen their midfield options ahead of the upcoming season, and Zechiël’s versatility and attacking output make him an attractive target. The club finished fourth in Ligue 1 last season, securing a spot in the Europa League, and will be aiming to challenge for a Champions League place next term. Securing Zechiël would add further competition and quality to their squad.
Should Lille successfully negotiate a deal with Feyenoord, Zechiël would likely compete for a starting position alongside or in place of existing midfield options, adding a dynamic presence to their attacking play.
