1.FC Magdeburg have successfully retained the services of Mateusz Zukowski, extending the striker’s contract until the summer of 2029, the club announced this evening.
The 24-year-old’s new deal comes despite reported interest from Bundesliga sides 1.FC Köln and Eintracht Frankfurt, signalling a significant coup for the 2. Bundesliga outfit.
Zukowski initially joined Magdeburg from Polish side Slask Wroclaw a year ago, primarily as a right-back, but quickly transitioned into a prolific goalscorer.
He finished the 2025-26 season as Magdeburg’s top scorer, netting an impressive 17 goals in just 21 second-division matches, demonstrating a remarkable adaptation to a more attacking role.
Magdeburg sporting director Peer Jaekel praised Zukowski’s impact, stating he is “far more than just an outstanding striker” and has become a “key figure” within the team in a short period.
Jaekel also highlighted the player’s “impressive development” in recent months, indicating the club’s belief in his continued progression.
Zukowski’s rapid rise and goalscoring record had inevitably attracted attention from higher-league clubs, making this contract extension a priority for Magdeburg.
The new long-term deal provides stability for Magdeburg’s attack and allows them to build around a proven goalscorer as they aim to challenge for promotion to the Bundesliga.
