FC Koln are increasingly confident that winger Said El Mala will remain with the club for the upcoming season, according to TEAMtalk. The 19-year-old has been the subject of significant transfer speculation throughout the summer window, attracting attention from several Premier League clubs.
El Mala enjoyed a breakout season in the Bundesliga last year, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists in 34 appearances for Koln. His performances quickly established him as a key player for the club and a highly sought-after talent across Europe, known for his pace, dribbling, and finishing ability.
Brentford had previously agreed a fee of around €50million (£42.5m) with Koln for El Mala, but the deal ultimately collapsed when the player and his mother, who acts as his advisor, rejected the move. The rejection stemmed from a request to include his brother in the transfer, which Koln were unwilling to accommodate. Brighton & Hove Albion also expressed interest but subsequently cooled their pursuit.
Newcastle United and Liverpool have both been linked with El Mala, but neither club has made a firm offer. While interest exists from other European clubs, there has been no recent movement on potential deals. Borussia Dortmund have emerged as potential suitors, but sources indicate a growing alignment between El Mala and Koln regarding his future.
El Mala has already rejoined his teammates for pre-season training under the new head coach, signaling his commitment to the club. Koln’s valuation of the player remains at approximately €50m, including add-ons, and they are not under pressure to sell due to recent outgoing transfers which have improved their financial position. The player's contract, which runs until 2030, further strengthens Koln’s negotiating position.
Although a late bid from a major European club cannot be entirely ruled out, the current expectation is that El Mala will continue his development with Koln for at least another season. His continued presence provides a significant boost to the club’s attacking options in the Bundesliga.
