Manchester United are progressing towards the signing of West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes, with the player reportedly agreeing personal terms with the club.
United finished third in the Premier League last season and are prioritizing strengthening their midfield options, currently possessing only four senior players capable of playing in the centre of the park. Fernandes has emerged as a key target, though West Ham are holding firm on an £80 million valuation.
According to reports, United are hopeful of securing Fernandes for a fee of £65 million, having successfully negotiated personal terms with the Portuguese international. The club believes they are making significant progress in the negotiations and potentially securing a discount on the initial asking price.
Alongside the pursuit of Fernandes, United are also monitoring West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville, with contact already established regarding a potential move. However, Arsenal have reportedly entered the race for Summerville, viewing him as a potential replacement for Gabriel Martinelli, which could complicate United’s efforts.
Meanwhile, speculation surrounding the future of Manchester United forward Benjamin Sesko has been dismissed by the club. Despite reported interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, United are adamant that Sesko will not be sold. The 11-goal striker was the Premier League’s leading scorer in the second half of the season, solidifying his importance to the team.
United have reportedly discouraged both Spanish clubs from pursuing Sesko further, indicating their commitment to retaining the player. This decision underscores the club’s belief in Sesko’s potential and his crucial role in their attacking plans. The acquisition of Fernandes would address a clear need in midfield, while retaining Sesko ensures continued firepower up front.
