Manchester United are on the verge of completing their first summer signing with Brazilian midfielder Ederson Silva set to join from Atalanta in the coming weeks. The club are reportedly adamant the deal is done, with a medical scheduled to take place this week, according to the Manchester Evening News. United will pay an initial £35 million for the 26-year-old, with potential add-ons reaching up to £3.8 million.
Personal terms have been agreed, and Ederson is expected to sign a four-year contract at Old Trafford. The move comes after United missed out on other midfield targets, Elliot Anderson, who joined Manchester City, and Mateus Fernandes, who signed for Tottenham Hotspur, with INEOS reportedly unwilling to overpay for players. Ederson is now free to undergo a medical following Brazil’s elimination from the World Cup.
Beyond Ederson, Manchester United are also stepping up their interest in Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni. Spanish outlet AS reports that the club are prepared to make a significant offer for the French midfielder, viewing him as an ‘essential’ signing to bolster their chances of competing for major trophies. United are expected to make contact with Madrid in the coming days, though the Spanish club are believed to want at least €100 million (£85.5m) for Tchouameni.
United will face competition from Chelsea for West Ham United’s Crysencio Summerville, according to Blues reporter Simon Phillips. Sky Sports recently reported that Summerville is a ‘top target’ for United as they seek a new left winger, but Chelsea are considering a rival bid, potentially capitalizing on West Ham’s relegation. A relegation clause in Summerville’s contract has reportedly reduced his price to around £40 million.
