Manchester United have identified West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville as a key target this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas. The move comes as West Ham prepare for life in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League.
Summerville, 24, managed seven goals and five assists in 34 appearances for West Ham last season, and is expected to leave the London Stadium. While he experienced a disappointing campaign with his club, he showcased his abilities on the international stage with the Netherlands at the World Cup, scoring two goals and providing two assists in four matches.
United’s interest in Summerville is not expected to face competition from Liverpool, who reportedly explored a deal earlier in the year but have since cooled their pursuit, as reported by The Athletic on June 23. Arsenal are also monitoring the situation, but United currently appear to be in a strong position to secure his signature.
The Red Devils are also considering other left-sided attacking options, including Morgan Rogers of Aston Villa, Iliman Ndiaye of Everton, and Matias Fernandez-Pardo of Lille. However, Summerville’s Premier League experience is seen as a significant advantage, particularly given the higher costs associated with Rogers and Ndiaye, and the relative inexperience of Fernandez-Pardo. West Ham are seeking around £50 million for Summerville, significantly less than the potential fees for Rogers, who could cost upwards of £80 million, or even £100 million.
A potential move for Summerville could be contingent on the future of Marcus Rashford, with Sky Sports suggesting that if Rashford remains at Old Trafford and is integrated into Michael Carrick’s plans, United may reassess their need for a new winger. Rashford’s potential return to Barcelona, following the expiration of their £26 million option to buy, remains a possibility, but he is reportedly open to staying with United.
