Manchester United are compiling a five-player shortlist of striker targets ahead of the summer transfer window, with Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski among those being considered, according to a report. While central midfield is currently the priority for the club, United are prepared to invest in a new number nine.
Joshua Zirkzee is expected to be sold, prompting the need for attacking reinforcements at Old Trafford. United officials believe adding another top-quality striker is essential if they aim to challenge for Premier League titles.
Lewandowski, despite being 37 years old, is viewed as a potential ‘short-term superstar’ option, drawing comparisons to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s successful stint with the club. The Polish international has an impressive career goal record, with 629 goals in 869 appearances, including 120 for Barcelona and 344 for Bayern Munich.
Alongside Lewandowski, United are also monitoring Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen, described as a ‘dream’ signing, though a fee of €150m (£130m) would be required. Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta is considered a ‘sensible’ alternative at £40m, while Dusan Vlahovic and Eli Junior Kroupi also feature on the list. Vlahovic could be available on a free transfer if Juventus fail to renew his contract, and the Serbian is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League. Kroupi, aged 19, has impressed with 13 league goals for Bournemouth, but could cost at least £80m, with Manchester City also showing interest.
An INEOS official has reportedly travelled to Portugal to explore potential winger signings, and the club are also pursuing a West Ham United player, though they remain £30m short of the asking price.
