Manchester United are set to reject Barcelona’s proposal for a second loan deal for Marcus Rashford, according to reports from the Manchester Evening News and TEAMtalk. The club is firm in its desire to either sell the England international for the agreed €30m (£26m) fee or remove his wages from their books.
Rashford is currently on loan at Barcelona, where he has expressed a strong desire to remain. Following a crucial free-kick in Barcelona’s La Liga title-clinching victory over Real Madrid, Rashford stated, “I’m not a magician, but if I was, I would stay [at Barcelona].” He emphasized his enjoyment of the team and his ambition to be part of their future success.
Despite Rashford’s wishes and Barcelona manager Hansi Flick’s interest in retaining him, the Spanish club are struggling financially and are hesitant to meet United’s asking price. They have explored the possibility of another loan with an option or obligation to buy, or a reduced outright transfer fee, but these proposals are expected to be turned down.
Sources close to Manchester United, including TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey, insist the club will not alter its stance. They are not interested in another loan arrangement and are prepared to consider offers from other clubs, with Arsenal and Bayern Munich both reportedly monitoring the situation. Mikel Arteta is known to be an admirer of the player, and United would be open to a deal with the Gunners.
Rashford’s current loan deal does include an option to buy for €30m, but Barcelona are seeking more favorable terms. United are keen to finalize Rashford’s future this summer to free up funds and continue their squad rebuild under Erik ten Hag. The rejection of a second loan signals a clear intention to move on from the 26-year-old.
