AC Milan are prepared to sell forward Christopher Nkunku after just one season, according to reports from Italy. The club’s management reportedly discussed the 28-year-old’s future with his agent, Pini Zahavi, during a meeting in Milan.
Milan are looking to reshape their attacking options, potentially aligning with the preferences of incoming manager Massimiliano Allegri, who favours a blend of experience and promising young players. While Robert Lewandowski, currently at the end of his contract, was discussed, Milan view his high wages and commission demands as prohibitive. The primary focus of the conversation with Zahavi centred on Nkunku’s potential departure.
Nkunku arrived at Milan from RB Leipzig in 2025 for a reported €37 million plus add-ons, making him a significant financial outlay for the club. However, his performances have not yet justified the investment, leading to the decision to consider him expendable. Milan are hoping to recoup at least €30 million for the player, but currently value him closer to €40 million to avoid registering a loss.
The forward struggled to make a significant impact following his transfer, partly due to a disrupted pre-season. He arrived at Milanello having been frozen out by Chelsea, missing crucial preparation time and subsequently taking time to reach peak fitness. When Nkunku began to find form, Milan’s overall performance declined, and the team struggled to supply their forwards effectively. There was also a perceived misjudgment in deploying Nkunku as a central striker, as he is more naturally suited to a role as a winger or second striker.
The club’s quick move for Füllkrug in the winter transfer window underscored this assessment. Allegri reportedly views Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic as his preferred starting wingers, limiting Nkunku’s opportunities for regular first-team football. Milan intend to use the funds generated from Nkunku’s sale to finance the acquisition of another forward player, reinforcing their attacking options for the upcoming season.
