Ligue 1 football will be available in Spain on the streaming service DAZN, the LFP Média announced on Tuesday. The agreement marks the first time since the 2017-2018 season that Spanish viewers will have access to every match from the French top flight. The first match broadcast on the platform will be the upcoming fixture between Paris Saint-Germain and RC Lens on May 13th.
This deal represents a positive development for the broadcasting rights of Ligue 1, expanding its reach into a significant European football market. Spanish fans will now be able to follow players such as Fabián Ruiz and Ansu Fati, who currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain, with two matches per game week to be commentated in Spanish.
DAZN has been increasingly investing in football rights across Europe, becoming a major player in sports broadcasting. The move to acquire Ligue 1 rights in Spain aligns with this strategy, offering subscribers a broader range of football content. The inclusion of Ligue 1 matches could attract new subscribers to the platform and increase engagement among existing users.
For Ligue 1, the agreement provides increased visibility and revenue, contributing to the league’s overall financial health. The Spanish market presents a valuable opportunity to grow the league’s fanbase and international profile, potentially leading to further commercial opportunities in the future. The league hopes that compelling narratives on the pitch will keep Spanish viewers engaged with Ligue 1.
