Monaco are exploring options to retain Wout Faes and Simon Adingra beyond their current loan spells, though outright purchases appear unlikely, according to L’Équipe. Both players joined the club in January to bolster a squad hampered by injuries and inconsistent form, and quickly established themselves in the team during the second half of the season.
Faes featured prominently in defence, making 16 appearances with 15 starts, while Adingra primarily played as a left-wing back, also featuring in 16 matches with 11 starts. Club officials are reportedly pleased with the contributions of both players and are keen to keep them at the Stade Louis II.
However, Monaco’s financial situation complicates matters, with reduced television revenue and the potential absence of European football next season impacting their spending power. The club’s chances of triggering the purchase options – €7.5 million for Faes and €17 million for Adingra – from Leicester City and Sunderland respectively, are considered very slim.
Monaco are now considering negotiating new loan deals, particularly for Faes, whose parent club Leicester have been relegated to League One. Despite Faes’ contract with Leicester running until June 2027, a further loan could be a viable solution. The situation with Adingra is more complex, as his €17 million price tag is deemed too high, especially considering Monaco already paid a €1 million loan fee.
Monaco could potentially qualify for the Europa Conference League playoffs if Lens defeat Nice in the Coupe de France final on Friday, but this would not significantly alter their financial outlook. The club may attempt to renegotiate the transfer fee for Adingra, who is contracted to Sunderland until 2030. This move would allow Monaco to retain valuable players without committing to substantial upfront transfer costs.
