Mathys Detourbet will join AS Monaco on loan after a transfer from Troyes to Manchester City, according to reports from L’Équipe and RMC Sport. The 19-year-old winger is set to move to City for a fee of around €25 million, including bonuses, before immediately being loaned to the Ligue 1 club. The deal is still pending final signatures from all parties involved.
Detourbet recently completed his second season as a professional footballer, playing a key role in Troyes’ promotion to Ligue 1 as champions of Ligue 2. He registered three goals and five assists during the campaign, showcasing his dribbling ability and effectiveness in one-on-one situations. He has also represented France at the Under-20 international level.
Troyes and Manchester City share a connection through the City Football Group, which owns both clubs, facilitating the complex transfer arrangement. The agreement between Monaco and City includes the possibility of a future purchase option for Detourbet, or a compensation fee payable to Manchester City should he return to England. The initial loan spell with Monaco is expected to be for one year, with an option for a second.
The move offers Detourbet the opportunity to play regular first-team football in Ligue 1, a step up from the second tier, while also exposing him to a higher level of competition. For Monaco, the loan provides a cost-effective way to acquire a promising young talent with potential for future development, potentially establishing him as a key player in their squad.
