Real Madrid, under newly appointed manager José Mourinho, have identified Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni as a priority target in the summer transfer window, according to reports from The Athletic. Following a challenging season, Real Madrid have turned to Mourinho, and have already secured deals for players like Cucurella, Dumfries, Konaté, and Bernardo Silva, with further reinforcements planned for both midfield and defence.
Bastoni has emerged as the leading candidate to strengthen Real Madrid’s central defence, with alternative options reportedly falling through. Manchester City’s Ruben Dias is expected to remain with the club under new manager Enzo Maresca, while Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck is sidelined with an ankle injury, effectively ending any potential move. This leaves Bastoni as the preferred option for the Spanish giants.
Bastoni experienced a difficult season with Inter, facing criticism for a perceived simulation during a match against Juventus and receiving jeers from some fans. He also received a red card while on international duty with Italy in a crucial World Cup qualifying match against Bosnia. Despite this, interest from other clubs persisted, notably from Barcelona, but a change in tactical approach under Hansi Flick ended their pursuit.
Bastoni’s agent, Tullio Tinti, recently stated that his client is “a fully-fledged Inter player” and happy in Milan, emphasizing the player’s existing two-year contract. Inter president Giuseppe Marotta has echoed this sentiment, suggesting Bastoni is not for sale. However, a significant offer from Real Madrid could potentially alter the club’s stance. The defender made 32 appearances in Serie A last season, playing a key role in Inter’s defence.
The potential transfer of Bastoni would see the 25-year-old move to one of Europe’s most prestigious clubs, providing him with a new challenge in La Liga. For Real Madrid, securing Bastoni would address a key area of need and add a young, talented defender to their squad, fitting Mourinho’s vision for the team.
