Schalke are nearing an agreement to sign Junior Dina Ebimbe from Eintracht Frankfurt, having reportedly reached personal terms with the midfielder, according to WAZ. Negotiations between the two Bundesliga clubs are progressing, though a final transfer fee is yet to be agreed.
The 25-year-old has become a key target for Schalke as they seek to bolster their squad following promotion back to the Bundesliga. While the clubs continue to discuss a fee, reports suggest the valuation gap has decreased in recent talks. Dina Ebimbe’s current contract with Eintracht Frankfurt runs until 2027, but he is not considered a core part of the club’s future plans.
Dina Ebimbe spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Stade Brest in Ligue 1, where he made a significant impact. He scored five goals in 27 league appearances, demonstrating his ability to contribute offensively and enhancing his market value despite his peripheral role at Frankfurt. His performances in France have seemingly reignited interest from clubs within the Bundesliga.
Schalke are attracted to Dina Ebimbe’s versatility, as he is capable of playing multiple positions including central midfield, wide midfield, and as a wing-back. This adaptability would provide manager Nenad Bjelica with tactical flexibility. The Royal Blues are prioritizing players with experience in the German top flight as they aim to establish themselves after their return to the Bundesliga.
Dina Ebimbe initially joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Caen in 2021, making 46 appearances across all competitions for the club. However, consistent injuries and the emergence of other midfield options limited his playing time, leading to the loan spell at Brest. The move to Schalke would offer him the opportunity to secure regular first-team football and further develop his career.
The addition of Dina Ebimbe would strengthen Schalke’s midfield options and provide competition for places, potentially improving their overall squad depth and quality as they prepare for a challenging season.
