Tottenham Hotspur have rejected a €35million offer from Brighton & Hove Albion for Croatian defender Luka Vušković, according to Sky Germany. The offer, representing a significant sum for the 19-year-old, was promptly turned down by the London club, who appear determined to retain the player’s services.
Vušković spent last season on loan at Hamburger SV, where he quickly established himself as a key figure in their Bundesliga survival campaign. The centre-back made 28 appearances for the Hanseatic club, contributing six goals and demonstrating a maturity beyond his years. His performances attracted attention from several clubs across Europe, with Brighton emerging as the most persistent suitor.
While Tottenham rejected this initial bid, a verbal agreement is reportedly already in place between Brighton and Vušković himself. This suggests the player is open to a move to the Premier League side, potentially complicating matters for Hamburger SV, who may find it difficult to compete with the financial resources of a top-flight English club. Sky Germany reports that Brighton are expected to return with a revised offer.
Vušković joined Tottenham in the summer of 2023 from NK Osijek, but was immediately loaned to HSV to gain regular first-team experience. He quickly adapted to the demands of German football, becoming a vital component of Tim Walter’s side. His ability to play out from the back, coupled with his aerial prowess and composure under pressure, have made him a highly sought-after prospect.
The rejection of Brighton’s offer indicates Tottenham view Vušković as a potential long-term asset within their squad. With competition for places in central defence already fierce, the club may be assessing whether to integrate him into the first team gradually or loan him out again to ensure continued development. Brighton’s continued interest suggests they believe Vušković could fill a specific need in their squad, potentially providing cover or competition for existing centre-backs.
