Tottenham Hotspur are considering a summer move for Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo, with reports suggesting Liverpool are now open to selling the Netherlands international. According to BBC Sport journalist Aadam Patel, any potential deal for Gakpo is likely to cost upwards of £60 million.
The 27-year-old joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023 for a fee ultimately reaching €50 million, and has since made 180 appearances for the club, contributing to 73 goals with 50 goals scored and 23 assists. However, Gakpo experienced a dip in form during the 2025/26 campaign, leading to questions about his place in the starting eleven, particularly with the emergence of young talent Rio Ngumoha.
Sources have confirmed to Graeme Bailey that initial talks have already taken place between the two clubs regarding a possible transfer. Respected Liverpool FC specialist Dave Lynch has revealed that Fenway Sports Group (FSG) will not prevent Gakpo from leaving Anfield if a suitable offer is received, a surprising stance given his recent arrival and potential.
Gakpo is currently under contract with Liverpool until 2030, earning an estimated £160,000 per week. While the player himself has not publicly expressed a desire to leave, he has acknowledged enjoying more “freedom” when playing for the Netherlands national team, hinting at a potential difference in tactical approaches.
Liverpool could potentially replace Gakpo with Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, whose contract talks with the French champions have reportedly stalled. However, James Pearce of The Athletic reports that Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola is keen to retain Gakpo, viewing him as a key part of his attacking options alongside Ngumoha, Victor Munoz, and Yan Diomande. The situation remains fluid, but Tottenham’s interest and Liverpool’s willingness to consider offers suggest a move could materialize this summer.
