Tottenham Hotspur have ended their pursuit of West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville, according to Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof, who stated on X that a deal is “off for Tottenham.” This development comes as Serie A side Roma have emerged as potential suitors for the 24-year-old.
Summerville joined West Ham from Leeds United last summer and featured in the Netherlands’ squad for the recent international tournament, a selection he described as a “dream come true”. However, following West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League, several players are expected to be sold to adjust to the financial realities of the Championship.
Tottenham were previously linked with a move for Summerville in both the January transfer window and this summer, but Blaauwhof’s update suggests those links are now over. This shift in interest coincides with a reported reduction in West Ham’s asking price for the player.
Initially hoping for a fee of around €40 million (£34.5m, $46m), West Ham have now lowered their demands to €30 million (£25.9m, $35m) – the same amount they paid Leeds for Summerville’s services. Italian outlet Il Messaggero reports that this price reduction is intended to facilitate a quick sale and has attracted the attention of Roma.
The Italian club, preparing for a return to the Champions League, are reportedly considering a formal offer for Summerville in the coming days. While no offer has been made yet, the lowered asking price is seen as a potential incentive for Roma to make a move for the winger, who has scored 40 career goals. West Ham are also reportedly keen to retain Jarrod Bowen, potentially increasing the likelihood of Summerville departing.
