Liverpool loanee Harvey Elliott is again a target for RB Leipzig after a disappointing season with Aston Villa, according to German outlet BILD. The Bundesliga side previously pursued Elliott last summer before Villa secured a season-long loan deal with a conditional £35million obligation to buy.
However, Elliott has made only four league appearances for Villa, falling short of the ten required to trigger the purchase clause. Unai Emery, the Villa manager, recently described the situation as “embarrassing,” acknowledging the difficulties for all parties involved. The Midlands club evidently have no intention of activating the obligation to buy and will seek to allocate those funds elsewhere.
Elliott’s future at Liverpool also appears uncertain, with Arne Slot, the newly appointed manager, not currently factoring him into his plans. This has prompted Elliott’s representatives to explore potential moves, with interest emerging from several Premier League clubs. Leeds United, Brighton, and Brentford have all been approached regarding a possible transfer, potentially seeking to bolster their squads ahead of potential European campaigns.
Despite previous interest from Newcastle United, that avenue now appears closed. Leipzig, who BILD describe Elliott as former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s ‘favourite pupil’, are revisiting their interest and are internally discussing a move for the 23-year-old. While Elliott is on their shortlist, he is one of several players being considered. A formal offer has yet to materialise.
Elliott initially rose to prominence at Fulham before joining Liverpool, but has struggled for consistent playing time since. A move to Leipzig could offer him the opportunity to reignite his career in a competitive league. Should he move to the Bundesliga, it would represent a significant shift in his career trajectory, potentially offering a fresh start after a challenging period.
