Brazilian forward Emersonn has completed a move from Toulouse to Ipswich Town for a reported fee of £32 million, Toulouse confirmed on Wednesday. The 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League club, extending to 2031, after just one season in Ligue 1. The transfer represents a significant financial boost for Toulouse, reportedly ten times the amount they paid for Emersonn when he joined from Turkish side Göztepe SK for €3.2 million last year.
Emersonn quickly established himself as a key player for Toulouse following his arrival, despite not being a guaranteed starter. He made 31 appearances across all competitions for the club, scoring seven goals and providing three assists. His contributions were crucial in a successful season for Toulouse, which included a historic victory over Lyon at the Groupama Stadium – their first win in Lyon since 1966 – secured by a goal in added time from Emersonn.
He also played a prominent role in Toulouse’s Coupe de France run, reaching the semi-final where they were ultimately defeated 4-1 by Lens, who would go on to win the competition. The sale of Emersonn represents the largest transfer fee received by Toulouse in their history, surpassing the £21.5 million received from West Ham for Issa Diop.
Ipswich Town, recently promoted to the Premier League, will be hoping Emersonn can replicate his form in the English top flight. The move provides Toulouse with substantial funds to reinvest in their squad, while offering Emersonn a platform to further develop his career in one of the world’s most competitive leagues. This transfer strengthens Ipswich’s attacking options as they prepare for their return to the Premier League.
