Everton have less than a month to decide whether to pursue a permanent deal for Chelsea loanee Tyrique George, with Newcastle United also expressing interest in the 20-year-old winger. The Toffees have an option to buy George for around £22million as part of the loan agreement that brought him to Goodison Park in January, but are exploring options to reduce that fee.
George made 11 appearances for Everton this season, impressing manager David Moyes with his work rate and attitude. Moyes acknowledged the club’s interest in retaining both George and fellow loanee Jack Grealish, stating that the club will evaluate both situations over the summer. He praised George as an “excellent boy” and highlighted his positive impact during his time with the team.
Chelsea are reportedly holding firm on their £22million option-to-buy, potentially forcing Everton to structure a deal with add-ons or instalments. Several other Premier League clubs are monitoring the situation, ready to make a move if negotiations between Everton and Chelsea stall.
Newcastle’s interest stems from a need to replace Anthony Gordon, who recently completed a £70million transfer to Barcelona. Sources indicate George is open to a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge, seeking a club where he can secure regular playing time. Despite starting only one Premier League game for Everton, he enjoyed his spell at the club and believes he could be given more opportunities next season. Everton believe George has the potential to develop into a top-level player if afforded consistent minutes. The situation remains ongoing, with Everton aiming to reach an agreement with Chelsea before the loan deal expires on June 30th.
