Everton have initiated discussions with representatives of Kieran Trippier regarding a potential move to Goodison Park this summer, according to TEAMtalk. The England international is set to become a free agent when his contract with Newcastle United expires at the end of the current season and is currently evaluating his options.
David Moyes is reportedly keen to bolster his full-back options ahead of the new campaign, and the opportunity to sign an experienced Premier League player without a transfer fee is seen as an attractive prospect for the Toffees. This interest comes as Seamus Coleman has confirmed his departure from Everton at the end of the season, creating a vacancy in the squad. While Everton are expected to trigger a one-year contract extension for Vitaliy Mykolenko, the long-term future of the Ukrainian remains somewhat uncertain.
Trippier has been a popular figure at St James’ Park since joining Newcastle, consistently demonstrating a high level of performance. His experience, leadership qualities, and ability to deliver accurate crosses from wide areas are considered valuable assets. The 35-year-old has enjoyed a successful career, previously playing for Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid, and has consistently been a reliable performer in the Premier League.
Everton, however, will face competition for Trippier’s signature. Recently relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers are also interested, with manager Rob Edwards viewing the experienced full-back as a key addition to their squad. Furthermore, a return to overseas football has not been ruled out for Trippier, who previously enjoyed a successful spell with Atletico Madrid. The club are also retaining interest in Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza, a versatile defender who is also available on a free transfer.
Everton may also see further departures in the full-back area, with Nathan Patterson potentially leaving the club as he has struggled to secure a regular place in Moyes’ plans. A double exit of Coleman and Patterson would likely necessitate the arrival of two new players in that position, with both Trippier and Mingueza currently on Everton’s radar. No decision regarding Trippier’s future is imminent, but Everton’s interest is genuine as Moyes plans for a significant squad overhaul this summer.
