Everton have registered their interest in signing Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie. The Toffees are considering Murphy as a potential replacement for Dwight McNeil, who is attracting attention from West Ham and other clubs.
Everton have already been active in the transfer window, securing the signings of midfielder Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough and permanently adding Tyrique George from Chelsea, for a combined total of around £34.5million. However, manager David Moyes is aiming to further strengthen the squad, particularly in wide areas.
Murphy, 31, enjoyed a productive 2024/25 season with Newcastle, registering eight goals and 12 assists in 35 Premier League appearances. While his playing time decreased last season, starting 19 league games, he remains a valued member of Eddie Howe’s squad. The winger has been with Newcastle for nine years and is considered a ‘brilliant player’ by Downie.
With Murphy’s contract set to expire in 12 months, Newcastle may be open to a sale, though sources indicate Howe is hesitant to let him leave without securing a replacement. Everton have made initial enquiries regarding his availability, but face competition from other interested clubs. No formal offer has yet been submitted by the Toffees.
Everton are also reportedly continuing their pursuit of Jack Grealish, with a potential loan or cut-price transfer being explored later in the window. The club are assessing multiple options to reinforce their attack ahead of the new season. A successful acquisition of Murphy would provide competition and depth in the forward line, mitigating the potential impact of McNeil’s departure.
