Everton have until June 30th to decide whether to exercise their option to sign Tyrique George permanently from Chelsea, with the fee reported to be around £22million. The 20-year-old joined the Toffees on loan in January, but has had limited playing time under David Moyes, starting only one league game.
According to BBC Sport, the club is still weighing up the decision, though supporters are largely in favour of retaining the young winger. Moyes recently stated he is “happy” with George’s contributions, praising his work rate and attitude, but offered no definitive indication of a permanent deal. He noted that the club will assess the futures of all loan players as the summer progresses.
Recent reports suggesting Chelsea’s new manager, Xabi Alonso, wants George back at Stamford Bridge have been dismissed by BBC Sport, potentially easing any concerns about the player’s willingness to return to his former club. This is significant as any agreement would require George to consent to the permanent transfer.
The situation is further complicated by the uncertainty surrounding the future of Dwight McNeil, who was previously linked with a move to Crystal Palace. Everton may be open to selling McNeil, whose contract doesn't expire until 2027, to fund other transfers. Tyler Dibling, a recent arrival from Southampton, has also yet to establish himself in the first team.
Retaining both George and fellow loanee Jack Grealish would strengthen Everton’s squad, but securing deals with Chelsea and Manchester City remains uncertain. However, should Everton decide against signing George permanently, other clubs are likely to express interest in the promising young player.
