Cesc Fàbregas, currently managing Italian Serie B side Como, is attracting attention from clubs in the English Premier League, according to reports in The Telegraph. The former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder has overseen a successful period with Como, guiding the club towards a potential first-ever qualification for European competition.
Fàbregas’s impressive work has been recognised in Italy, where he recently became the first foreign manager to win the Enzo Bearzot trophy, awarded to the best tactician of the year. The 39-year-old spent a significant portion of his playing career in England, featuring for Arsenal between 2003 and 2011, and later for Chelsea from 2014 to 2019. He has openly expressed his desire to return to the league as a manager.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Fàbregas stated his continued belief that the Premier League remains the best in the world, both as a player and now as a coach. However, he acknowledged a conversation with former Chelsea manager José Mourinho, who advised him that he has decades ahead of him in his managerial career. Fàbregas suggested he could remain with Como for a further 10 years before potentially moving to the Premier League in 12 to 15 years.
The report speculates that a potential opportunity could arise sooner should a club in the north of England part ways with their current manager, specifically mentioning Michael Carrick. Fàbregas’s success at Como, coupled with his extensive Premier League experience, would likely make him an attractive candidate for several clubs. Como currently sit in a strong position in Serie B, challenging for a promotion spot and a historic European qualification. His achievements there have significantly raised his profile as a promising young manager.
