Romain Faivre will spend the 2024-2025 season on loan at AJ Auxerre from Bournemouth, the Ligue 1 club confirmed on Friday. The 27-year-old midfielder initially joined Auxerre on loan in January for the latter half of the previous campaign and will now feature for the Burgundy-based side for a full season. The loan does not include an option for Auxerre to make the transfer permanent.
Faivre made 10 appearances for Auxerre last season, providing two assists. He becomes Auxerre’s first signing of the summer transfer window, offering continuity to their midfield options. The player expressed his eagerness to complete a full season with the club and to reconnect with the supporters at the stadium.
This loan move represents a chance for Faivre to find stability after a period of frequent changes. He initially transferred to Bournemouth from Lyon during the summer 2023 transfer window, but has since been loaned to Lorient, Brest, Al-Taawoun, and now Auxerre. He has featured in only six matches for Bournemouth during his time with the Cherries.
Prior to his move to England, Faivre established himself as a creative force in Ligue 1 with Lyon, demonstrating his playmaking abilities and goal threat. The consistent loan spells suggest Bournemouth are not currently convinced of his long-term suitability for the Premier League, while Auxerre provides a familiar environment for the player to regain form and playing time. This move allows Faivre to continue his development within a league he knows well, potentially increasing his market value for future transfers.
